  • President of the European Nuclear Society and of the Italian Nuclear Association. He is an international expert in the development of nuclear programmes and infrastructures assisting both the Italian Government, and the European Commission for the design, implementation and evaluation of EU projects of Euratom Programmes.
  • From May 2011 to November 2022, he was Head of the Nuclear Power Technology Development Section in the Department of Nuclear Energy of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA). In this position, he was responsible for the IAEA programme on technology development and deployment of advanced nuclear reactors (SMRs, ALWRs, GCRs, FRs, MSRs, etc.), as well as non-electric applications of nuclear power. The programme is also addressing technology development of fusion reactors for energy production. At the IAEA, he was also the Chair of the Agency-wide Platform for SMRs and their Applications, coordinating the work and activities of all the IAEA Units supporting Member States for the development and deployment of Small Modular Reactors and their applications.
  • He has been serving in a number of national and international nuclear committees, including the Steering Committee and the Committee for Technical and Economic Studies on Nuclear Energy Development and the Fuel Cycle of the OECD Nuclear Energy Agency, the Executive Committee of the European Sustainable Nuclear Energy Technology Platform, the European Sustainable Nuclear Industrial Initiative, the IAEA Technical Working Group on Fast Reactors.
  • He holds a doctorate in nuclear engineering (exact Italian title: dottore in ingegneria nucleare) from the University of Bologna and is a professional licensed engineer.
