Toshio Kaneko has many years of experience in the nuclear field.
His prior experience includes positions at the Japan Atomic Energy Research Institute (JAERI), the Science and Technology Agency (STA) of Japan, the Permanent Mission of Japan to the IAEA in Vienna, and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MOFA) of Japan as a specialised diplomat, focusing on the fields of atomic energy, nuclear security, non-proliferation, and nuclear science and energy.
He has held his current position, as Special Assistant to the Director General of the IAEA for Nuclear Energy, Nuclear Science and Applications and Technical Cooperation, since January 2021.
He received his Doctorate degree from the faculty of Nuclear Engineering and Management at the University of Tokyo.
